Also called Java Citronella, it is widely used in aromatherapy and phytotherapy, mainly as an insect repellent and in preparations for topical use. It is obtained through steam distillation of the plant. In ancient Egypt, citronella symbolized spiritual protection and purification, and was used in rituals and amulets to safeguard homes. It has a fresh, citrusy, and herbaceous aroma.

· Insect repellent (mosquitoes, lice, fleas, and ticks).
· Atmospheric antiseptic (purifies the air).
